Cleansing the Body: Why Timing is Important

If you’re interested in cleansing your body, as with everything in life, timing is very important. It is true that a person can cleanse the toxins from their body at any time of the year, but it is said that summer and fall are the best times of the year to do it. What do the seasons have to do with anything? That is a good question and that's what you’re going to find out. There are also ancient rituals that were used by many different cultures to clean toxins from their bodies.

The Timing

The American Indian practiced the summer cleansing fast and it is something that dieticians are still recommending to this day. It involves steps that cleanse your inner systems, but these steps only last for a four day period. Each day targets a specific area of the body. Here is how it is done:

  1. One day of eating only raw fruits is a great way for your system to cleanse your colon. On the first day of the fast you can eat all the fruit you want.
  2. The second day involves the release of salts, calcium, and toxins from the muscles, organs, and tissues.
  3. Mineral-rich bulk is supplied to the digestive tract on day 3.
  4. The fourth day involves providing minerals to the blood, inner organs, and the lymphatic system.

You eat fruits, vegetables, and sprouts because they are light and easy to digest so that the vital organs can clean, empty, and rejuvenate.

It is important to ensure that plenty of liquid (spring water) is moving through the body during all of this. This helps flush the body clean.

The reason why this is done during the summer is because summertime is brimming with fresh fruits. The fruits are fresher than they are at any other time of the year, which makes them all the more delicious.

As for fall cleansing, fall is also the season of the harvest, which means raw fruits and vegetables are readily available to initiate a cleanse.

Ancient Rituals

The American Indian ritual mentioned above is still used today as a way to cleanse in the summer. The Japanese used herbs as their ancient rituals to cleanse the body. Along with this, they also incorporated yoga and meditation. Another method used by the Japanese that is still in practice today is water therapy. Water therapy was a way to treat disease and injury. The therapeutic baths rid the body of impurities inside and out.

Indians in India used a method called Ayurveda that was divided into eight parts. These parts included a certain issue existing within the body. If the issue involved a mental disorder, then the detox method used was called Graha. Kaya dealt with digestive issues, Bala dealt with children and diseases interfering with growth, Urdwha dealt with diseases involving the area above the neck, Shalya was the surgical branch, Jara dealt with the treatment of old age, and Vrushya dealt with having a healthy sex life.

Foods that Boost Metabolism

During cleansing, it is important that the foods that are taken in boost your metabolism so that the body can process the foods at a faster rate. This also helps to rid the body of toxins faster. The foods that you can eat while cleansing your body include:

  • Fruit such as apples, pears, oranges, blueberries, pumpkin, tomatoes and grapefruit
  • Vegetables such as raw broccoli, celery, and hot peppers
  • Sprouts

Although it is not a food, Water Intake is Very Important.

It's good to keep in mind that anything with fructose and high starch needs to be avoided. A good fiber intake is also good at boosting your metabolism and flushing out waste. Many diets today preach that high fiber is the way in which a person can regulate certain functions. It also helps the digestive tract work properly.

Luckily, many raw foods are great at boosting your metabolism because they are actually what the body is programmed to take in. Our ancestors had to live off of their land, so their raw food intake was very high. The exception was when they hunted for animals to cook over a fire, but that was not every single day, making the raw food intake of our ancestors somewhere near 90%, but 100% on some days, weeks, or even months.
