Period Cessation and Pregnancy

From the time we began menstruating, we were told of the dreaded missed period because it signals pregnancy. However, missing a period might be something else entirely. Not having a period is called amenorrhea, and it can be caused by anything that stops the action of the ovaries, the organ where the eggs are stored. Some women have many cycles when they don't ovulate, and usually that means there is not bleeding or just “breakthrough bleeding.” There are many reasons why a woman does not ovulate such as breastfeeding, premenopause, coming off the pill, illnesses, stress, travel, strenuous exercise, excessive weight gain or loss, and medical conditions. Pituitary gland problems and cysts in an ovary or ovaries. This can be very disturbing if you are trying to conceive because you can't get pregnant if you do not ovulate. Pregnancy is the fertilization of an egg. There are several natural herbs that can help.

Herbs As Therapy

Ovulation can be assisted by several natural herbs:

  • False unicorn root
  • Red clover tea
  • Raspberry leaf
  • Lady's mantle
  • Ginseng
  • Chinese Angelica Root

Also, 25 to 100 mg a day of vitamin B6 has been known to aid in inducing ovulation.

The Role of Nutrition

If you are on a raw-foods diet, your failure to ovulate may be the result of a nutritional deficiency, especially if you've experienced a severe weight loss. Your raw-foods diet should include the following every day:

  • Nine ounces of whole-grain products
  • Two cups of fruits
  • Two and one-half cups of vegetables
  • Three cups of raw unpaturised milk or an equivalent
  • Five and one-half ounces of nuts, peanut butter, seeds, peas, or sprouted lentil

Keep a diary to be sure you are getting the nutrients you think you are. Are you feeling full and satisfied? Perhaps you need to add a little more food to your daily intake. It could be that adjusting your diet to meet all your nutritional needs and to gain back some of the weight that you lost may be all it takes to get the eggs started and your cycle back in order.
