Celery Seed

Introduction

*Celery seeds are seeds of the celery plant.

*Whole celery seeds are small, crescent shaped and brown in color, and look very similar to cumin seeds.

*Celery seeds are used whole and ground in various soups, stews, dressings, spice mixes, etc.

*They have the aroma and flavor of celery with a slightly bitter taste.

*Buying and storage: Select whole, fresh and healthy seeds with fresh aroma and fragrance. Store them in airtight containers in a cupboard away from light and heat. They stay fresh for about 6 months.

Is it raw?

Yes, these are mostly raw or sundried, unless otherwise specified.
Make sure you read the label.

Health Benefits

1. Celery seeds, like celery, have a mild diuretic effect. These may promote loss of fluids from the body through urine.

2. By eliminating excess fluid from the body, celery seed can regulate fluids in the body and thus may have a regulating effect on the blood pressure.

3. Celery seed is also believed to have cholesterol-lowering effects. But more research needs to be done to prove this property.

4. Another property of celery seed that is being studied is its role in prevention of cancer. But again, more research needs to be done to prove this property.

5. A lot other nutrients are present in anise seeds, but as anise seeds are used in very small amounts, they do not provide any nutritional benefits.
